I am trying to increase my readership and gain new
followers, so I have signed up for this meme, hosted by Parajunkee’s View and Alison Can Read. Visit either of their
posts to see who else is taking part.
I would especially appreciate 'likes'
for my Facebook Page.
Activity: Confess your
blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you’ve done, that as
you gained more experience you were like — oops?
I am naturally a very cautious person, so I did
lots of research before doing anything with my blog. Consequently, I do not
believe that I made any terrible mistakes on the blog itself.
However, I did make one major error when I discovered
the free books available on Goodreads and LibraryThing. After several truly
terrible self-published efforts, most of which you can find under my 1 star
review tag, I learnt to check the reviews on Goodreads before even looking at
the sample on Amazon. Now I read far fewer books that make my eyes bleed! :D
I've learned to be a bit pickier with review requests. I love self published authors and there truly are some gems out there...but not all are unfortunately. Goodreads is an invaluable source, isn't it?

I'm quite picky with self published books - I know that there are good self published ones out there, but they're a lot harder to find. I know that if I love the blurb of a book from a publisher I'm familiar with, there's a very high probability I'll like it when I read it - and I just don't have that with self published books.

Yes, I've read my fair share of not so great self-pub books myself. It's definitely led me to do more research before I accept a review request. Old follower.

I still have a few self pub books on my kindle to read. Of course, now Amanda Hocking is a published author! But there were a few that caught my eye, I know some are by published authors but another one or two might be self-pub.

I am quite picky as well, I want to pick books that I think I'll really like - it's always a little sad to read a book I don't like, and then also spend the time on reviewing it.
ReplyDeleteI've already liked your FB page :) here's my FF post for this week.
Have a wonderful weekend.
See reviews are good for something! Following back. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I already read a couple books that were truly eye bleeders. The reviews didn't help though because they RAVED about the books! Yikes! :) Thank you for the follow! Following back! :)
ReplyDeleteGoodReads is definitely a great reference in determining whether a book is worth checking out.

Luckily I haven't come across anything too awful yet... I know it's only a matter of time though lol.
